Duke of Edinburgh Award

The Duke of Edinburgh Award runs hand in hand with the Explorer Scout programme. It's just like going to ASDA and getting a buy one get one free deal. It's a nationally recognised qualification widely recognised by employers and universities alike. It shows Award holders are better than the rest, as they can plan, lead, communicate, focus and demonstrate commitment.

A DofE programme is a real adventure from beginning to end. It doesn't matter who you are or where you're from. You just need to be aged between 14 and 24 and realise there's more to life than sitting on a sofa watching life pass you by." From the Duke of Edinburgh Website

The Award is broken down into three levels, Bronze, Silver and Gold and Explorers can join at any level and have until their 25th birthday to complete the Award. This means they can take exam breaks at any point without being under pressure to complete the Award. Each Award has four sections (five at Gold) which the Explorer Scout needs to complete over a minimum time period.
Have a look at the Award website for more information and remember: if a young person is doing Explorer Scouting they are also fulfilling the Duke of Edinburgh Award requirements without any extra pressure or commitment! It's a no brainer really. The world is their oyster with the Duke of Edinburgh Award!
